Doctoring A PC With Computer Repair

By Carl Whistler

Computers take quite a bit of abuse that we do not realize. Electrically they go through significant changes on a daily basis. With heat, constant functionality and a variety of other factors failures are inevitable. That makes computer repair necessary to save data and get back up and running.

The electricity feeding your system isn't perfect. It fluctuates considerably minute to minute and the like. Pair that with the internals and the power supply takes considerable abuse. The power supply converts wall power to DC for all the components inside. It also tries to absorb power fluctuations but can only do so sparingly. This is a leading cause of failure.

Heat is another leading cause of failure. Fan failure due to dust or cigarettes will raise temperatures up considerably. Normally inside the system, the temp runs around 100 to 120 degrees. Normally there is a case and a processor fan. With either of those clogged, running slow or failed, the case will heat up rapidly. Most processors shut themselves down, but often they die if they are too hot.

Storage drives fail fairly easily without the right protection. Again overheating will kill the motor eventually, so ventilation is good. Shock is bad, dropping the computer, or banging on it can cause the head to crash inside a hard drive, although that is more rare now. Keeping your computer on all the time will eventually wear the motor out as well.

You can also experience a video card failure. If you watch movies or play games, this can cause failures to occur. Heat from inside the unit can cause the card to fail from overheating.

Most failures are easily fixed. Only if something catastrophic happens such as processor failure will it be expensive. Proper troubleshooting pinpoints issues rapidly, and allows for the best fixes while costing you less.
