Do It Yourself Ipod Touch Water Damage Repair Tips

By Daniel J. Vargas

With the iPod being so popular when it comes to using them while running or pool side; eventually they may come into contact with water. Repair shops can quote prices for repair that are almost the same as the cost of the device. For those that would like to avoid the cost and try to repair it themselves; the following iPod Touch water damage repair suggestions might help.

Whatever you do, do not turn the device on once it has come into contact with water or any other type of fluid. This can result in the inner working short circuiting and the device becoming completely un-usable. Instead you want to look into the port for the headphones and see if the moisture indicator shows red or pink. If this is the case there is confirmed water damage.

Airing out the SIM card if the device has one and should be done next. Using a cloth that isn't going to leave lint on the card, carefully dry it off by dabbing it until the visible water is gone. You will need something to pop out the card if the removal tool is not available. The tip of a paperclip or thumb tack works well.

Drying out the inside of the phone is critical. User will need a blow dryer in order to do this. Taking the hair drying and positioning it above the open slot on one end and then other should help to get all the fluid out. The dryer needs to be set on cold or a very low heat setting. Before turning it on give the device a couple shakes to make sure the majority of the fluid is out. The air drying should be done for 10 minutes on each end.

For the rest of the steps you are going to need a plastic sandwich bag and some white rice. Start by filling the bag with the rice, making sure to leave room to fit the iPod in as well. You will want to place the device in the bag completely covered by the rice and leave it there for a few days. After the first day, replace the old rice with fresh stuff so it can continually gather the moisture out the device.

One you feel that it has been long enough, take the iPod out and give it a few gentle shakes to see if there is any more fluid leaking from anywhere. If you see nothing then you can move onto the Final stages of repairing the device.

After all the steps have been done check to see if there is any sign of water in the unit. Now the SIM card can be reinserted and the power can be turned back on.
