Who Needs Reverse Phone Number Lookup?

By Martin Masterson

Here comes the deliveryman with a big bouquet for you. It is from your Great Aunt Agatha, who has just sent you an unexpected flower arrangement. There is a first time for everything! Your mother has told you where your Great Aunt lives, but you are drawing a complete blank as to her location. You would like to send her a thank you card, but dread the idea of calling her to ask for her address. Why not try using a reverse phone number lookup strategy?

The convenience offered by reverse lookups is the reason for its popularity. With fixed telephone outlets so familiar to every home and business owner, the lookup system is free. There are reverse directory books available from the phone company itself. Now there is an online version of the same service. Unless a customer requests that his number and information be unlisted, it will be visible to all. Cell phone lookups are subject to a fee, but can usually be found by using a reputable search company.

There is a persistent belief that making prank phone calls is a harmless activity. But these calls can be upsetting and frightening to some people. Elderly people or nervous, lonely homeowners can be terrified by callers who deliver unwelcome messages at any time of the day or night. However, using a phone function which reveals the number of the last caller can stop the whole problem. With the caller's number, further information on their identity and whereabouts can become available

A determined caller with a grudge and a nasty streak can stalk former acquaintances. This is not a prank call, but a threatening, terrifying call for the receiver. With the use of the reverse lookup, the culprit may be found and face suitable consequences.

Everyone jokes about telemarketers who have an uncanny sense for when they should not call. Apparently, this is their cue to dial your number. Reverse directories can put an end to these annoying interruptions.

There is a strong privacy lobby at work to keep everyone from knowing everything about their acquaintances. This position is valid to an extent. But when it protects illicit activities, society has a right to demand some degree of information sharing. Telemarketers, stalkers and pranksters may be dismayed at the ease of reverse phone number lookup today. But most people can see the advantages of being able to identify the people whose phone calls are unwanted.
