There are a lot of things that might happen that can cause a lot of trouble to you and to your business. Having said this, preparing for the unknown things is a must to do. Depending on what type of industry your business is in, there are a lot of disaster recovery programs and technology that you can implement to protect your business. If you are in the manufacturing, then better prepare for events like a typhoon, earthquake or flood. If you are in the computer business, then better prepare yourself from the attack of hackers and viruses. Whatever type of business you have, you will find the disaster recovery plan for it.

Now, not all disaster recovery plans are design for the above natural disasters. It can be also a plan to protect you or your business from human induced disasters. In overall essence, disaster recovery is the process, procedures and policies that you implement to protect and prepare for recovery and continuation of your business' technology infrastructure which we all know is very important to a business or organization.

Disaster recovery or DR is a concept that was basically conceptualized and implemented to the late 1970s when computer administrators and businesses started to understand the significance and their reliance to computer system and networks. They create backups and protection to their business data that are crucial to the existence of their company or information that are just plain important not to misplace.

With the birth of the internet in the late 90s into 2000s, businesses and organization of all sizes become very and more dependent on computer and on the continuous availability of their computers and IT systems. Disaster recovery has been an added serious aspect when it comes to the survival of a business since most businesses become on-line to serve more customers. With the rise of hackers as technology such as the internet rises, many businesses are paying a fortune just to protect their businesses from these people and events of hacking.

Today, disaster recovery is an extensive term for all the steps that is to undertake when you consider this plan of action. Moreover, disaster recovery programs and plans can be categorized into three types and they're the examples below:

1. Preventive measures - Prevention is better than cure. This is the main focus of this type of DR; it aims at preventing an event or disaster from occurring. 2. Detective measures - In this type of disaster recovery, it aims to detect or discover any unwanted program in the computer system. It seeks those things that might cause a problem in the future. 3. Corrective measures - After detecting a problem in the system, these measure aims at correcting these problems or restoring the computer system and memory to the time before the event had occurred.

Disaster plans are very important in a business a good disaster plan is one that has all the three types above and is tested regularly to make sure that it is fail safe.
